Advocacy through Arts

Parivar Bay Area’s birth was dedicated to highlighting trans queer South Asian stories through the arts. Since then, we’ve continued to advance trans, queer, and South Asian arts and storytelling - in all mediums.

To highlight a few:

  • We co-presented the groundbreaking San Francisco Queer Film Festival

  • Our trans-South Asian performers made history by performing on the SF Pride main stage

  • We shared space with Padma Shri recipient, trans folk dancer Manjamma Jogathi

  • We created a documentary to share Indian trans/hijra communities, livelihoods, and growth.

  • Finally, we routinely host festival celebrations, dance nights, Pride parties, and more.
